Scoliosis Has Been Treated Through Spinal Instrumentation Method
Op. Dr. Mehmet Ozan Asık, who is our Orthopedics and Traumatology Specialist, has treated Yagmur Ayhan, who is 12 years old and has a disease known as Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis, through the use of ‘’Spinal Instrumentation’’ method.
Yagmur Ayhan, who is 12 years old and lives in Denizli, applied to our hospital due to her spinal curvature known as scoliosis. The patient, whose disease was noticed incidentally by her sports instructor in April, 2018, was diagnosed with Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis after the examination made by Op. Dr. Mehmet Ozan Asık. The patient, who had a double curvature on 60 degrees at the lumbar level and 32 degrees at the thoracal level, has regained her health through the ‘’Spinal Instrumentation’’ method applied by Op. Dr. M. Ozan Asık and his experienced team.
A three-dimensional approach to scoliosis
After the relevant surgery, Op. Dr. Mehmet Ozan Asık made a speech and emphasized that scoliosis can be treated more successfully and faster thanks to the recent developments in health technology. Asık said: ‘’We diagnosed our patient with Adolescent Idipathic Scoliosis that is more common in girls, and she has been treated with a surgical intervention due to the high level of curvature. In the treatment of our patient, we used three important methods as a three-dimensional therapeutic surgery to provide the anterior, posterior and side balance of the spine, a procedure called neuromonitorization that minimizes the surgical complications and spinal cord injuries, and a method called spinal instrumentation. Our patient was able to walk in the second day following the successful surgery, and she has been discharged healthfully from our hospital in the fourth day.’’
Our patient has gained 5 centimeters in length
Op. Dr. Mehmet Ozan Asık stated that scoliosis has a negative effect on increase in length, and he added that it is possible to achieve an increase in length through a surgical intervention in treatment of scoliosis if it can be diagnosed early. Asık said: ‘’When our patient applied to our hospital, her length was 163 centimeters. When we later measured her length before discharge from the hospital, it has been found as 168 centimeters.’’ Behiye Ayhan, who is the mother of our patient, made a speech after the treatment of her daughter, and said: ‘’First of all, we would like to express our thanks to Op. Dr. M. Ozan Asık, who performed my daughter’s surgery successfully, and your physicians, nurses and all employees who were very closely interested with us in this process. My daughter, who is in her most important years in terms of self-confidence development, will have a healthier and happier life thanks to the relevant treatment.’’
“Parents have a primary role in the treatment of scoliosis’’
Op. Dr. Mehmet Ozan Asık indicated that early diagnosis is very important in the treatment of Scoliosis, and added that the parents have a primary role in noticing the disease. Furthermore, Asık said: ‘’Children should be examined frequently and regularly by their parents for early diagnosis of the disease. The parents should pay close attention to the symptoms such as uneven shoulders or hips that occur when one of them is higher than the other, apparent appearance of the scapula, and imbalance between the leg sizes.’’
