An Orange Awareness Activity Has Been Hold At Our Hospital On The World MS Day

An awareness activity has been hold at our hospital for MS (Multiple Sclerosis), a central nervous system disease that is not common in the society, within the scope of the World MS Day. In this awareness activity, our Neurology Specialist named Dr. Burcak Ekinci Evci has made an important speech on the relevant disease.

On the World MS Day, all  employees and physicians including the Management Team of Private Adatıp Istanbul Hospital draw attention to this awareness by wearing an orange ribbon that is the international symbol of the MS disease.

On the World MS Day, that is officially marked on the last Wednesday of May each year by the Multiple Sclerosis International Federation (MSIF) and the World Health Organization (WHO), our Neurology Specialist named Dr. Burcak Ekinci Evci has made an important speech on the MS disease. She stated that Multiple Sclerosis is a brain and spinal cord disease (central nervous system) that may occur suddenly. It is most common in people between the ages of 22 and 40. Though genetic susceptibility, environmental factors and viruses may stimulate occurrence of the disease, there is not any specific cause for occurrence of Multiple Sclerosis. Evci emphasized that various symptoms can be seen in people with Multiple Sclerosis, but these symptoms can vary from person to person due to the nature of the disease. Furthermore, Evci stated that the symptoms appear on the body part that is mostly affected by the disease. The most common symptoms are chronic fatigue, difficulty in walking, repetitive dizziness and imbalance attacks, diplopia, vision loss or blurred vision, lisping, temporary electrification sensation from the neck to the body, difficulty in urination or urinary incontinence.

You should not ignore Vitamin D deficiency

Specialist Dr. Burcak Ekinci Evci states that early diagnosis is extremely important as the severity of Multiple Sclerosis can vary from year to year, even from day to day. Evci also emphasizes that early diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis can change and slow down the progress of the disease. A neurology specialist should be consulted immediately, and necessary tests should be made even when only one of the symptoms is seen. On the other hand, Vitamin D has an important role in Multiple Sclerosis as it can regulate the immune system of the body and provide beneficial effects in the patients with MS. Adequate amount of Vitamin D supplement can reduce the number and severity of attacks in the patients with MS. Furthermore, adequate amount of Vitamin D supplement in children can protect them against MS for a long time.
